Driving to Burnley
Having not been there before and google maps is showing M11, A1M, M62. Anyone have a better route?

the journey always seems to take an extra hour whichever the route - allow plenty of time, thats all I will say.

Park in the cricket club however try and be a bit sharpish on getting away - we spent 45 minutes with the traffic in lockdown while the football spectator traffic cleared last time out.

Alternative is to go in one of the many car parks back intot town and walk - you can get away more quickly then

have fun - love a bit of burnley

If the cricket club is rammed there is an away fans marquee inside the ground selling beer and pies. Stewards and locals friendly

I would definitely avoid the M6 at the moment. North of Birmingham a lot of it is 50mph and pretty relentless roadworks until around J21. They are upgrading a very long section to a smart motorway, and the traffic is generally a complete bastard.

All the way up the MI then M62 then M66. Longer in linear terms but much more likely to be clear. Don't be tempted to cut across through places like Huddersfield or Halifax as these can get properly snarled up, and if the locals catch you they will eat you.

Never been there?!

You were the assistant manager for a season, son.

You’re not very popular up there though, so keep a low profile.

Just about the ONLY place away fans can drink.

No pubs let away fans in.

That toll road on the M6 is a god send as well.

Stick to the motorways as much as possible. Don't think for one minute you can do better on an A road, take you forever.

M1/M6/M65 is the better route.

I'd probably want to avoid the M62 if snow is forecast/probable.
